your taste will define a lot of things in your life.
your taste in design, your taste in women, your taste in food, your taste in fashion…
it’s the main differentiating factor why some people are aesthetic and their life (on the surface) looks so well curated.
i am a big believer of the good old “taste is subjective” argument… for some pink is good, for some it’s not. i honestly don’t care (unless they talk shit about black color… it’s a elite color)
but i do believe your taste say’s a lot about you as a person and the things you expose yourself to.
personally, i curate only people with good taste, i only want to be influenced by them… if i feel that a person lacks the taste or style (or vibe…) my mind doesn’t feel the worth in pursuing them.
i call this “curating aggressively”.
we humans are hoarders… we love to collect things, people, experiences… it makes us feel safe… that’s how we have survived so it’s fair..
but it has downsides..
earlier, things were was scarce.. you could only meet a handful of people in your lifetime.
internet gave us access to all the knowledge of the world, all the niche interest, kinks, fetishes, opinions that you would have never discovered.
internet is like a sea, that’s why we call it surfing.
but if you are not mindful of where you are surfing, you might get lost.. and things can get ugly very soon.
we have evolved our environment, but our habits are still ancient…
you don’t need to hoard anymore, you can have access to all the answers in the world at your fingertips, in an instant… it’s magical.
you can talk to anyone in the world in any corner of the world anytime you want…
yet we all love to keep the old habits, old memories, old experiences, toxic peoples… why?
because we feel it’s scarce… and letting it go makes your mind feel unsafe.
and that’s why i feel like we should curate more aggressively.
i am slowly inclining towards the fundamental idea of intentional living… heavily inspired by the Japanese culture (i don’t know how they get everything so right)
the idea is simple: everything in your life should be intentional.
if it’s not? discard it
every single thing, habit, person, tool should be intentional. that’s what i think.
you don’t need 4 different tools to manage your life, you need just 1, but it should be intentional.
it could be your calendar, a sticky note, a txt file or simply your whiteboard, but it’s your responsibility to make it intentional. something that you want to do, not something someone else assigned you.
being intentional doesn’t mean becoming a minimalist, you can keep everything but you need to be aware how each thing is impacting your life.
your job, your friends, your family, your tools everything…
that’s how you become intentional.
that’s how you set a standard for yourself. and once you do that…
curate aggressively that doesn’t meet those requirements.
i am back to curating, i hope you do too.
adios
